To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death

“THE SECRET OF VICTORY”
From the February 6, 1954 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel
As the understanding unfolds to the honest thinker that God is good and God is All, he cannot continue to believe that disappointment, disaster, and defeat are realities or that man is subservient to their pretense to power. Such belief is as illogical as it is unspiritual. “Experience is victor, never the vanquished; and out of defeat comes the secret of victory,” declares Mary Baker Eddy on page 339 of “Miscellaneous Writings.”
“A thank-You letter to God!” These words startled her. The mist of self-pity and fear began to dissolve as she thought of how much she had to put into a letter of gratitude for benefits received and errors dispelled. As she began to recall past blessings she became aware of the very present blessing of being grateful instead of fearful. She had shut herself into a dark prison of self-pity which is hospitable to misery and invites no joyous guests. Now in a glowing moment of courage and gratitude she was freed from that prison, released from morbid fear, and healed of the belief that she was defeated. Good began to unfold in her thought at once and was soon manifest in her daily experience.
Now the way is indicated for us to follow. When we express our gratitude in “thank-You letters to God,” we become increasingly joyous in our persistence against whatever enemies threaten us. When we remember that “hitherto hath the Lord helped us,” we become aware that we can expect Him to help us again. So, as faithful students of Christian Science, we learn the secret of victory and claim our dominion over evil.
Consecration, gratitude, faith, and understanding enable us courageously to prove that man is the manifestation of God, the witness to divine wisdom, goodness, and power. The power and the glory belong to God. To know this and to abide with the knowing is the secret of victory.
