“I’ve always loved the idea of recording life in art. It’s felt like a Soul-calling to use pictures, songs, poems, and stories to think through the wonders and difficulties of being. The mystery of life, the glory of God, striving to be good and the battles that come with it—these things have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.
A Letter to Myself

Dear, dear Alex,
Have faith that you are being crafted into a beautiful tower. Listen to none but the Voice.
My dear self, work your craft. My dear, take the steps. You can do it. You can. What do you love more than anything? God, dear hearted gentleness. Clean, sweet, bare humility. Hard work and respect. Honesty, calm, justice, courage, imagination, purity, silliness, forgiveness. These are your wind to breathe. These are your love to write on life.
My dear, you are written on the sky. You are not a shy voice, you are not a failure. You are not judged by the standards of the world. You do not have to live up to their standards. You are standing here right now – you, with your feet and your legs are enough to stand and walk in the world, remaining the strange and amazing thing that you are. Also the kind and loving thing that you are. Also the learning and humbled thing that you are. Alex, your hands, mind, and heart are able to create songs that are tools and windows and towers of ideas. Of pure leaves and adoration. Of honesty that cuts to the quick.
Stand strong my brother! Stand strong, and let the rest of it go.
For all your flaws and ignorance, keep living on, my love. (c)
