Chicago Cubs Win World Series + “Stealing Home” with Jodie Foster

The story [Stealing Home] ties together a magical combination of love, friendship, family relationships, being lost/found again, spirituality, youth, and longing for understanding.  Buy it, watch it, love it. The soundtrack is also wonderful. It calms me and makes it seem like there are no worries in the world…

No curse to reverse

From the November 10, 2003 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel

… For the past 50 years or so, much has been made of the “curses” that have seemed to befall these teams. Many baseball fans talk widely about how these teams are hexed and will never win another World Series (the Cubs last won the World Series in 1908, the Red Sox in 1918)…

In their respective pennant-clinching series, each team was very close to going to the World Series, and, in each case, the teams gave up the lead and the chance to advance. Many around the US continued with talk of curses, but I refused to accept that concept, no matter how many people suggested it.

Have you ever heard a lie so often that it started to sound like the truth? Well, it’s not. It can’t be. No matter how often it’s said, no matter how many people think so, it’s still a lie.

In fact, that transfers to all walks of life, down to every single person in the world. Even when life seems to be against us, we are not “cursed,” “jinxed,” or even “unlucky.” God is always with us. We just need to listen to His direction, not to anyone else’s opinion. The fact about us is that God made us perfect, so we’re not susceptible to any theories like ones about curses.

Take Joseph in the Bible, for example. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers, but did not let that hold him back from living a purposeful life, because he knew God was with him. Even when he was unjustly thrown into prison, he knew God was there. Joseph had done nothing wrong. It would be easy for us to think that Joseph could have given up and decided that imprisonment was all that life had in store for him. But if he had thought that way, prison was where he would have stayed. By putting his faith in God, progress was a certainty. He went on to become one of the most powerful men in the world and was able to help many people through listening to God.
